What Do The Words We Use Really Mean?

Do the terms culture, kingdom, missional, vision, incarnational, organic sound familiar?

Hardly a day goes by that we don’t hear these terms used in some way or other. I see them in books, hear it at conferences, and so forth. Everyone is using them as well as others but what do we mean? I’m not sure that we know. Are we all using it them same way and what do we mean by them? I don’t think we are.

Thus I want to call for what I refer to as a “clarity moment.” I would challenge every writer, conference speaker and leaders in general to pause and define what they mean when they use such abstract terms. If you would take a moment to tell us what you mean when you use the term culture or vision, for example, that would make a clarity difference. It would go a long way in helping us to know what it is that we’re talking about.

While that’s not the solution to what I perceive to be a communication problem, it would help.
