Hey Pastors and Church Leaders,
You’re probably scrolling through this on your phone right now, caught in that strange week when Christmas services are fresh, but next year’s ministry calendar is screaming for attention. And yeah, that coffee in your hand? I’m guessing it’s not your first of the day. While your congregation is busy making New Year’s resolutions about finally using their gym memberships, you’re hiding in your office trying to figure out how to be in three places at once come January.
Nobody warned us in seminary about this weird week, did they? You know, the one – where everyone else is enjoying their holiday break and recovering from Christmas celebrations, but you’re already neck-deep in Q1 planning. The calendar says 2024, but your mind’s racing between next week’s sermon and that leadership retreat in a few weeks.
Let’s Talk About Where You Are Right Now
But can we pause for a second? Because what I’m about to say can change how you view everything that’s ahead: You made it. Through the Christmas services, the year-end activities, the staff transitions, the late-night calls, and everything in between – you’re still standing.
And that’s not just because you’re tough (though you are).
It’s because God’s faithfulness doesn’t have an expiration date.
Remember Those “How?” Moments?
Remember those moments from last year when you thought, “I don’t know how we’re going to figure this out”?
Guess what?
You did. Or, more accurately, He did. And He’s not done yet.
The Truth About Your Best Days
Here’s what I want you to know as you step into this new year: Your best days in ministry aren’t behind you. They’re not wrapped up in that one amazing service from 2024 or that breakthrough moment from last summer.
God’s still writing your story – and your church’s story.
Before You Jump Into Those Goals
So yeah, you’ve got goals, plans, and that vision board you’re working on (come on, I know some of you do). That’s great. But before you dive into all that, take a breath.
Look up. Remember who called you to this in the first place.
The Real Game Plan for 2025
This year isn’t about being a better version of yourself or hitting bigger numbers. It’s about letting God be God in your life and ministry. Sometimes, that means dreaming bigger; sometimes, that means being still long enough to hear His whisper.
You’ve got this, pastor. Not because you’re awesome (though you are), but because He’s faithful.
Now, go grab that fourth cup of coffee. You know you want to.
I’m Rooting for you,
Jeff H.
